The bite of the bite to the Afghan exits

Some readers got bored of our editorial last week: “Biden to Afghanistan: Drop Dead.” But that headline unfortunately looks more accurate than ever after President Biden’s decision on Tuesday to stick to his arbitrary deadline of Aug. 31 to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

Unless you are Nancy Pelosi or a media partisan, there is no sugar coating what this means. Sir. Biden bows to the Taliban’s demand, repeated on Tuesday, not to extend the deadline. He rejects the advice of such G-7 leaders as Britain’s Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron of France to stay longer to get more people safely out of the country. And he is leaving thousands of Afghans fighting with the United States and NATO to the Taliban’s mark of retaliation.
