KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s warm-up match for the upcoming U19 World Cup has been canceled, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Monday.
Afghan players have not yet reached the Caribbean due to visa delays, the ICC said. Discussions to resolve the issue are ongoing.
At the same time, England’s match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has also been moved to January 11 at the Conaree Cricket Center.
The ICC chief of events, Chris Tetley, spoke about the delay in Afghanistan’s arrival in the West Indies. He said the cricket agency was working with the Afghanistan Cricket Board to resolve the issue.
The ICC U-19 World Cup kicks off on January 14, with hosts in the Caribbean beating Australia in Guyana. The final is scheduled for February 5 in Antigua.
